Sledding Party

The sledding party that I planned was a super fun event despite the fact that the temperature was a frigid -9 degrees.  Ouch!  Ouch because cold temperatures like that hurt and so did some of our landings off the snow jump.  It was so fun, though!

Why did I plan a sledding party?  The answer:  I hate snow and cold temperatures, yet I am forced to deal with them.  To make my situation better I decided a fun event would make me enjoy what I don't like.  The result:  it worked!

The sledding party began with my friend, Laura, and I picking up two Monster pizzas so that we could feed our guests (and have extra sleds).  About 15 of us ate pizza, but only 9 of us made the trek out to sled.  We cruised down the hill and over the jump on 5 saucers, 2 pizza boxes, and 1 toboggan.  It was great!  Some of us had successful sled rides and landings while others of us crashed and burned and face planted.  I was one who face planted, but I don't care because I didn't get hurt and I was having fun with friends!  Once we were done sledding, and completely frozen, we went back inside to have a sledding after party.  That consisted of drinking hot chocolate, eating candy, and looking at our awesome sledding photos.  We also finished off the Monster pizzas.  A Monster pizza is 26 inches in diameter and each is cut into 45 slices.  Yes, 15 cold and hungry college kids can eat a lot of pizza on a Friday night!

Here are some pictures from the sledding party.

This is what two Monster Pizzas look like in the front of my car with Laura.  This is what delicious looks like to me.  Candy, popcorn, and hot Chocolate!  Yummy yummy!  Below is my friend Sam doing his stand and run move after clearing the jump.  I sledded in style slowly down the hill on a pizza box.

The group that braved the -9 temperature!  Let's do it again, but maybe when it warms up a bit.

What Would You Expect?

Pullman has been waking up to new snow most every morning for the last week and a half or so.  So far, Tuesdays have been the worst days.  The conditions have been blizzard like! Below is a view that I got to see out my window one morning.  I must say, kind of pretty!
Tuesday this last week was extra nasty.  It was a blizzard all day.  At five in the morning, I had to brush two inches off my car windows.  Six hours later I had to brush four plus inches off my car windows.  The snow was really coming down!  It was also very icy-I partially slid through an intersection on my way back from work.  Scary but not as scary as the angry bus driver who thought she should use inappropriate sign language at me!  Oh well, no one was hurt and that is what is most important in situations like that.

So here is what I have been leading up to.  Tuesday evening my one professor e-mailed my class to ask if we would like class cancelled because of the winter weather advisory that was in effect.  So what would you expect a bunch of college students to say to a question regarding cancelling class?  I'm certain he knew what the answer would be.  After he tallied our votes, he e-mailed the class to announce that class would be cancelled today (Wednesday).  Big surprise, but yeah!  Thursday night the class gets to vote on whether or not we want class cancelled Friday.  I think we all know what that answer will be...YES, cancel class!

Six Weeks-Wow!

The longest my parents and I have gone without seeing each other.  Crazy!  My college life with school, work, and socializing has kept me busy.  I'm going home this afternoon and it'll be the first time I've been home this semester.  It'll also be the first time I've seen my parents since winter break ended.  I've seen only Erin this semester and that was three weeks ago.  I'm used to seeing my family more because in the fall they come to all of WSU's home football games, which are every couple weekends.  So it's been a long time since I've spent time with my family!

Yes, I have missed my mom and dad, but I've been alright.  I've been strong and have only started to long to see them in the last 10 days.  Because I can't believe that it has been six weeks since I saw them, I am taking it as a sign that I am growing up and very comfortable with my life in Pullman.  This is a good and bad thing I suppose.  Don't get me wrong, though, I love my parents and don't know what I would do without them.  I just can't believe it's been six weeks!  It sure doesn't feel like it!  I just counted the weeks this morning and was surprised at how much time had passed.

I'll head home for the three day weekend in a few hours.  It's going to be so nice to see mom, dad, and Erin.  I'm also looking forward to seeing our pets, especially, Daisy and Buzz.  It's going to be a great weekend filled with good memories!  We are planning to eat out, do some shopping, and attend a hockey game.  It's going to be great and I am going to enjoy every second of it!
