It's Week 3

So it is the beginning of the third week of nursing school.  The main thing is I am alive, breathing, and passing my classes!  We have exams every two weeks which means the first one was last week.  It went much better than anticipated, which was a big relief!  I have to say I am super lucky to have the classmates I have.  Everyone works hard and wants to do so well.  Because of that, I am motivated to keep up with them and give it my best.  I have some good study buddies and really appreciate studying with them.  Did I mention my classmates are nice and believe in me?  They voted me class president.  I have never been a class president.  Being nominated felt good and I hope I can meet my peers' expectations!

So nursing school is tiring as a I quickly found.  I have found myself doing things that scare me because all I can think is "if I make these little mistakes in my life and it carries over to taking care of a patient, things might not turn out so well."

Mistakes/blunders, that I do not like admitting to but will because sometimes things get the best of us, include:

1. Walking to the wrong car after studying at the library.  In fairness I had driven through that spot and the car was the same color as mine, but it was embarrassing because a classmate was with me.

2.  I cannot remember anything unless it is school related.  I keep forgetting deodorant, paper, and to buy milk.  I have been to Safeway and Wal-Mart so many times and I still come up short on stuff.

3.  I have tried to go to the bank and UPS store before 8am and have been surprised that they are not open.  I just figured places like that might be open before 8 for people like me who have to go to class.

5.  This is scary.  I turn off on the wrong streets and get off the wrong off ramps because I forget where I am going.  Thank goodness for me, though, is I am able to make up a reason for getting off there.  Like buying candy.  I go get candy if I turn at the wrong spot.  Seems right.

4.  There are others but, as I said in number 2, I cannot remember much else but vital signs and nursing theories right now.

I also have to point out that nursing school has made me "one of those people".  By that I mean, I have become one of those people who has rolling bag dragging behind them on campus.  To make it worse I drag a suitcase around.  I have too many big books and they would break me if I did not have a wheely bag.  Its terrible but its only for two years.  I hate it.  I go to the library and everyone stares.  I just want to tell them "go to an airport...seeing all those people pulling rolling bags and suitcases around would blow your mind!"

Oh nursing school, you're going to be interesting for sure!
